December has me traveling to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for work. One of the things I spent some downtime working on in the last few months has been trying to get my credentials for more states – Michigan being one of them.
My first couple days had me up in Houghton. Its a small peninsula on the upper peninsula. We got to do a couple flights on our fixed wing – PC-12. We only did a couple as we had some mechanical issues. The poor plane was living outside due to a broken hangar door. Not great in a place that gets 300 inches of snow per year! Hope its fixed soon!
The remainder of my work assignment has me traveling to Escanaba on Lake Michigan. Here is a rotor base. Unfortunately staffing was a challenge and then when we had staffing the weather was bad. No flights this round but we still were able to transport via ground.
The downtime allowed me to go see the beach and walk by a lighthouse. It was super cold and I didn’t linger outside very long. I also was able to do my CPR refresher and try a pasty – local pastry meat pie that the miners would take down for lunch.
All in all I really enjoyed the scenery of the Upper Peninsula and have made a mental note to plan a trip in the summer when most of the sites are open to visit.
Next up – Amy’s Birthday trip!
Seek adventure and get busy living.
