I have been trying to motivate myself to get out and explore more around me. So I searched around on Google Maps and looked for something that interested me. This is what I found.
The museum is located in the old rail station in downtown Fayetteville. Not terribly difficult to find, parking and admission is free and the building is nicely restored or preserved.
The most interesting fact I learned from my visit is that the town is merger of two areas – Cross Creek and Campbelton – and named Fayetteville in honor of the Marque de Lafayette. Lafayette was an instrumental ally during the American Revolution.
Fayetteville was a inland port on the Cape Fear river.
The museum also has some history about Fort Liberty and its founding. The base was first Camp Bragg established in 1918 then was slated to be abandoned after WWI then refunded and became Fort Bragg in 1921 and nearly 100 years later was renamed Fort Liberty in 2022.
Attached to the history museum is a transportation museum – history and vehicles?! I was in.
The transportation museum is essentially one large room with several sections – old scooter, carriages, fire truck and an old truck. Small but it was worth the cost – free entry.
I hope to find the time to explore more around the local area as my time here is coming to a close soon.
Do you have a suggestion of something I should see before I leave the area?
Seek adventure and get busy living.
