Fort Liberty has a small museum packed with history on post. The JFK Special Warfare Museum is in an unassuming brick building on the base. For years I have been an admirer of Special Forces. I admire there fitness, discipline, technical ability but mostly the grit that it takes to succeed in the profession. Special operations also covers some fascinating points in our history in the world that I have read many books about.
The artifacts and history covers the beginning of special operations to include the OSS, early frogmen going through all our conflicts up to the war on terror. Some events in history I remember are the fall of the Berlin wall (they have a segment) and the Blackhawk Down event in Somalia.
Overall the museum is worth the stop if you are going to Fort Liberty. I know it moved me to read the stories and origins of special operations.
Seek adventure and get busy living.
