Snow. Look you guys know my love of the coast and tropical weather but I will say when fresh snow is on the ground it is quite peaceful.
Christmas 2024 for me was spent in bed – sick with the virus going around. Spent 20 hours in bed trying to rest and feel better. Couple days later I’m on my way to Michigan for work.
I flew into Traverse City and my first couple days were in Gaylord. Weather was quite poor and we didn’t do any patient flights. I did enjoy some great food recommended by some friends.
After a few days in Gaylord I was moved to Escanaba to fly on the helicopter up in the upper peninsula. I got to drive across the Mackinac bridge – something I’ve wanted to see for some time now. I do wish I could have made this trek in the summer.
3 days in Escanaba went by fast. It was great to catch up with some folks I met there last year. It was fun to work the New Year holiday in the same assignment as last year. Enjoyed a pasty and even did a little taste test between two places there – Gram’s Pasty is the winner by the way.
After 3 days it was time to drive back to Gaylord for last couple days of work. Driving around the Lakes is very beautiful – even in winter. I hope I get a chance to come up during the summer or autumn. Back in Gaylord I did go on a patient flight.
At the end of my work days I drove to Traverse City to fly home. When in town I had lunch with a friend at a great pasta restaurant in town. I was impressed with the architecture in town and the nice downtown area. On my friend’s suggestion I visited The Cherry Republic where I got some treats for the family.
The flights home were uneventful. I came home to ice covered with snow. It was slow work wise but great to go to a new base for me and work with some peers I haven’t worked with before.
