About a 2 hour drive from where I’m working is Wrightsville Beach. I was on a night shift run and needed to get away from the base of operations for the day, see the ocean and clear my head.
I was terribly unprepared but I grabbed my sunscreen, backpack and an extra towel and off I went.

For me having my feet in the ocean, feeling the sea breeze and hearing the waves just rejuvenates my soul. The coast is my favorite place in all of creation.

I hung out on the beach for a couple hours and just relaxed.

Of course I found a small place near the beach called Shark Bar and had some fish tacos close enough to the ocean to smell the salty air while I eat.
After lunch I decided to explore the USS North Carolina Battleship just down from the beach.

The USS North Carolina was a battleship completed just before the attack on Peal Harbor in 1941. It was then sent to the Pacific Theater where its sailors earned it 15 battle stars – the highest decorated battleship in WWII.
The museum took about 2 hours to tour alone stopping to take photos. Admission is $14 and worth every dollar. I love history and often as I walk through historic sites try to envision life in the context of the era. Its often humbling to think about and helps me appreciate those who served.
What other things should I try to see when I’m in southeast NC?
