Back in February work had me traveling to the beautiful state of Wyoming. I didn’t have much time to spend sight seeing as I was there for work but did get about half a day to run to a museum in Dubois.
I spent my work days in a town called Lander. Its a small town of about 7500 people. Most everyone I met were friendly and just as hospitable as a southern hometown. Despite its size there is some amazing restaurants there. Middle Fork’s breakfast had some amazing variations on some southern classics like biscuits and gravy. Gannett Grill served up a steak sandwich so juicy and scrumptious I had to talk myself out of seconds. On my last night there I went to Cowfish on the recommendation of a friend who is local. When in Wyoming eat the steak – I did and will again when I return.
Also on the suggestion list from locals was to see the Military Vehicle Museum in Dubois.
This museum was free for veterans and $20 for all others. I gladly paid my $20 and set off to see the military vehicles.
The tour starts with a vault of historic guns. I’m leaving out photos as its hard to get quality photos from behind glass. Just take my word for it you don’t want to miss this if given a chance to stop in.
The museum hosted a plethora of military vehicles. Mostly tanks and jeeps but there were boats, landing craft, helicopters, small planes, command cars, trailers, tankers, parts of guns from battleships and my personal favorite…. old motorcycles.
I am not showing too many photos as I hope you go pay them a visit. My photography skills won’t do the place justice.
Its not just US vehicles. It contains vehicles from many countries and guns, Patton’s war diaries, but most importantly it tells people’s stories. Reading the stories of the people of our armed services was so humbling. Many great people have served this country and their stories are more inspiring than most modern novels.
The days are short this time of year. My half day in WY was coming to a close quick as I had to leave my quarters around 3:30am to make the trek to the airport. I spent about 2 hours in the museum and could have easily spent a whole day lost in the tales of heroes. I’ll return to WY. This trip has definitely inspired me to make plans to bring the family to visit the western states one day soon.
